How our structure works
This page offers a very simplified description of our structure. A fuller description can be found in the video or its transcript at the bottom of this page. The aim is to show you how our local worshipping communities are linked to national decision-making bodies.
-
Meeting for Sufferings
Meeting for Sufferings is the standing representative body entrusted with the care of the business of Britain Yearly Meeting through the year.
-
Regional/general meetings
Although a large number of general meetings were removed from Britain Yearly Meeting's structure in 2005, some still fulfill a vital role.
-
Committees
The centrally-managed work of Quakers in Britain is looked after by committees of volunteers who direct our staff.
-
Other Quaker groups
This page replaces the Book of Meetings page and lists some of the organisations that sit outside of the formal structure of Britain Yearly Meeting.
-
Give time
Inspired to get involved in Quaker service?
Friends who offer service find that they can be led to achieve great things. Take part in a number of different ways.
-
Jobs and voluntary opportunities
We list jobs within Britain Yearly Meeting and some other Quaker organisations with whom we work closely. Jobs with local Quaker meetings can usually be found advertised in The Friend.
-
Safeguarding
Safeguarding is important in our meetings and events. Here are links to all our information.
-
Quaker Recognised Bodies
These groups demonstrate some of the many interests and concerns that Quakers pursue as part of their wider commitment to their faith. Most groups meet up and organise activities - it's a great way to meet Quakers and make new contacts. Activities are usually open to non-Quakers. Do please contact a group if you are interested to know more about it.
