Drone Wars: Out of Sight, Our of Mind, Out of Control.
The new campaign briefing from Drone Campaign Network calls for a renewed push to challenge the growing use of armed drones.
Drones represent a worrying new frontier in warfare. Quakers are working to stop the adoption and use of armed drones.
Quakers in Britain are founder members of the Drone Campaign Network, which coordinates collective action by groups aiming to stop the proliferation of military drones.
Drones raise a number of grave concerns: high civilian casualties, targeted extra-judicial killings, decisions to kill made half the world away, and the possibility of autonomous weapons killing without human involvement. Visit Drone Wars UK (offsite link) for information and analysis of the use of military drones.
Fly Kites Not Drones brings together a range of learning materials about peace and human rights designed for young people. It is an inspiring way to talk about the problems around drones, and includes guidance for making and flying your own kite for peace.
The resource was made in Britain but the inspiration comes from Afghanistan, a country that has known over three decades of constant war, including armed drone strikes.
Fly Kites Not Drones is a collaborative project with the Drones Campaign Network and Afghan Peace Volunteers.
