QPSWCC 3 June 2025

Quaker Peace & Social Witness Central Committee (QPSWCC) considered the implications of Yearly Meeting, especially discernment on peace and on Gaza, and had a deep dive into the international conciliation work of Quakers.

What is this committee responsible for?

QPSWCC oversees national Quaker efforts to build a sustainable and peaceful world, and helps shape Quaker positions on public affairs.

What did it do at this meeting?

The major item was conciliation. The International Conciliation Group, one of our sub-committees, spoke about the work they do, supporting parties in violent conflicts and in training other Quakers to do the same. Quaker conciliation is long-term and rooted in love; it can be hard to claim specific credit for success, which emerges over time. There is a hope to use more experienced conciliators to train newer or younger ones, and we can see how the methods could be used in Britain as well, potentially in universities, government or other spaces that would benefit from more deep listening.
