QPSWCC 29 November 2025

Quaker Peace & Social Witness Central Committee (QPSWCC) considered Quaker perspectives on tax in the context of climate justice, heard about the recent Quaker Earthcare Gathering and received a proposal from local Quakers about civilian peacekeeping in Gaza.

What is this committee responsible for?

QPSWCC oversees national Quaker efforts to build a sustainable and peaceful world, and helps shape Quaker positions on public affairs.

What did it do at this meeting?

Our climate justice work is increasingly becoming connected to the impact of money on climate action. Staff brought some draft principles on Quaker attitudes to tax, wanting taxation to redistribute wealth more equitably and discourage damaging extraction or extreme consumption.

The Quaker Earthcare Gathering, held in October by Living Witness and Quakers in Britain, produced a powerful epistle which QPSWCC considered.

QPSWCC began discussions about what else can be done to support peace in the Middle East, following changes in the region (notably shaky ceasefire in Gaza) and a minute from Bristol AM. A small working group will continue thinking about this, aware that our current Ecumenical Accompaniment work is at full capacity and that as a global ecumenical programme these changes are not a decision for Quakers alone.
