Quakers say prepare for peace, not war

Quakers in Britain support the Taxes for Peace Bill given its first reading in the House of Commons today (19 July). Second reading is scheduled for 2 December.
Ruth Cadbury, MP for Brentford and Isleworth and a Quaker, introduced the Income Tax (Non-Military Expenditure) Bill under a Ten Minute Rule motion.

White Feather Day marks centenary

One hundred years ago today conscription and conscientious objection became law. In the midst of World War I, Quaker MPs worked in parliament to ensure the recognition of the right to refuse to kill.
This was the first time in history that legal objection to military service for an individual had been granted.

Quakers deplore vote to authorise air strikes in Syria

Quakers in Britain opposed the vote in the House of Commons tonight to extend air strikes to ISIS targets in Syria.
The vote was 397 for and 223 votes against taking action in Syria.
