Quakers and the Trafficking of Africans: Researching Our Past
6 November 2025, Online
An increasing number of Quaker meetings are trying to discover how Quakers were involved in trafficking Africans. This event is designed to support Quakers already doing this work and to encourage and inspire more Friends to begin this kind of research.
We will hear about the experience of three different local research projects (in Lancaster, Bristol and central England). After a break, colleagues from Friends House Library will share tips for getting into this kind of research and where to find relevant sources. There will be plenty of time for questions and conversation.
This kind of research is a crucial first step as British Friends engage with the Britain Yearly Meeting call to move forward on the work of reparations. The afternoon is open to everyone with any interest in this work and its findings.
