Quaker Racial Justice Network (QRJN) - Elizabeth Heyrick
8 April 2025, Online
Tues 8th April will be the 200th Anniversary of the founding of the Birmingham Ladies Society for the Relief of Negro Slaves. One of the founders was the Quaker Elizabeth Heyrick, who was more radical than her contemporaries - calling for immediate rather than gradual abolition, and compensation for the emancipated rather than for slave owners.
We look forward to welcoming to our session Nathaniel, currently working for Britain Yearly Meeting as Reparation Coordinator, along with Jocelyn Robson, author of a book about Elizabeth Heyrick, Elizabeth Heyrick: The Making of an Anti-Slavery Campaigner | Jocelyn Robson and Nicola Crews, archivist from Birmingham Library.
