AUG 25

Peaceful dissent: pilot workshop

25 August 2026

A session exploring fundamentals of nonviolence and assessing risk when taking action for a more peaceful world.

A picture of a Quaker inside a police van holding a sign which says Quakers for Peace.

Quakers in Britain are running a project on supporting the right to peaceful dissent. As part of this we are delivering sessions with the intention of building skills and confidence on understanding dissent. We are currently piloting the materials we've developed so far and this session is a chance to experience the session and give feedback to help make it most useful.

The first hour will focus on a reflective discussion on what you consider to be nonviolence, and then thinking through different types of risk and how to decide what you feel comfortable with. There will be a break and there will then be a shorter section on either knowing your legal rights or interacting with the police.
