Comings and Goings: Modelling the Future of Quaker Membership
10 September 2026, Online
This session will explore the future of Quaker membership numbers in Britain, drawing on recent mathematical modelling carried out by Rahela Rashid at the University of Southampton.
Using data from the annual Yearly Meeting tabular statement and the 2023 British Quaker survey, it has been possible to create a predictive model as to what will happen to membership numbers over the next 45 years. The results are far more optimistic than previous studies.
The session will include an overview of previous work on membership numbers and an explanation of this new approach, with time for discussion.
