Climate Dialogues: Having Constructive Conversations

7 April 2025, Online

This short introductory session aims to empower Friends to confidently speak the truths in their hearts about the climate. We will practice showing up with respect and compassion, not shying away from people who hold differing opinions.

This workshop will provide an opportunity for shared understanding and acknowledgment of the emotional impact of the climate crisis on both personal and global levels. We will get to know and practice using tools for looking after ourselves and each other, using Nonviolent Communication (NVC), the essence of which is human connection.

We will:

  • Examine the difference between observation and interpretation.
  • Practice how to de-escalate climate conversations.
  • Learn about universal human needs, and practice listening for them (We are all trying to meet the same life-serving needs such as safety, progress and belonging.)
  • Discover ways to be with our own feelings, and those of others, as we step out of our usual circles to address these pressing issues.
  • This session will include sharing of key concepts plus practice in small groups with time for reflection and questions.

This is part of a series on climate dialogues. Another session, “Climate Dialogues: Finding Common Ground," will be held on Thursday, 30 January. Find out more and book your place here,
